130 thousand people participated, messages reached three million people

Belgrade – The traditional Danube Day campaign, organised for the seventh consecutive year by the Ministry of Agriculture, Trade, Forestry and Water Management – Republic Water Directorate and the Coca-Cola System, has included active participation of 130 thousand people, and the campaign messages have reached three million people across Serbia. In the four months of the campaign, with support of more than 300 partners, 120 activities in 26 cities have been organised, with a unique aim – to raise awareness regarding the importance of protection and preservation of the Danube river and other rivers in the Danube basin. For the first time, the campaign has included a
photo and journalist contest on the topic of “Why I love the Danube river”, in cooperation with National Geographic magazine, the Association of Journalists of Serbia and the Independent Association of Journalists of Serbia, and winners have received valuable prizes.
“We are proud of the fact that messages on the importance of preservation of the Danube ecosystem and the role of each individual in that process have reached three million people across Serbia, owing to active participation of 130 thousand people during the Danube Day event. Each of us has to understand that we live downstream and that it is necessary that our behaviour does not threaten conditions of life of future generations, and to realise the importance of rational use of water resources and preservation of all rivers. Therefore, we will continue with successful cooperation with our long-standing partner, the Coca - Cola Systеm, on this significant project,“ said Dragana Milovanović, Head of the Group for Strategic Planning and Management and International Cooperation in the Water Area of the Republic Water Directorate.
The Danube Day campaign is based on the “Partnership for the Green Danube River” program, launched in 2005 by the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR), Coca-Cola Hellenic and The Coca-Cola Company. This partnership between the private and public sector was initiated in order to improve the protection of the most beautiful European river. General Manager of Coca-Cola Hellenic Serbia, Sotiris Yannopoulos, has expressed huge satisfaction with the fact that partners have for years been sharing the same enthusiasm and energy in the implementation of the campaign, which has been recording increasingly good results from year to year.
